Since 1887, the Sewall name has been synonymous with powering Midcoast Maine—a legacy born along the Kennebec River during Bath’s historic shipbuilding era. What began with Mark W. Sewall delivering coal and wood to local homes and waterfront businesses grew alongside a legendary maritime fleet. While Arthur Sewall & Company’s four-masted steel barks, including the famous Edward Sewall, hauled bulk coal down the Atlantic to Caribbean ports and transported barrel kerosene across global sea routes, M.W. Sewall established deep roots on land.

Our Heritage: From the Kennebec to Your Doorstep.

Our story began in 1887 on the banks of the Kennebec River in Bath. The Sewall family was already legendary in the Maine shipbuilding industry, crafting world-class vessels like the Edward Sewall. As the world moved from sails to steam and oil, we evolved alongside it.

In the mid-20th century, we transitioned from shipbuilding to fuel distribution, becoming a trusted partner for families and businesses across the region. Today, led by the third and fourth generations, we combine that old-world work ethic with cutting-edge energy technology.

Before M.W. Sewall became a full fledged fuel company. We moved coal in these trucks.
