Crafting A Legacy on the Kennebec

Throughout the 1800s, the Sewall family operated one of the five major shipbuilding yards along the Kennebec River. Among their noteworthy creations was the Edward Sewall, a square-masted schooner that delivered kerosene throughout the Caribbean islands for Texaco. This ship symbolizes the family's craftsmanship and their role in supporting global trade during a pivotal era in maritime history.

Three Generations of Leadership

By the mid-1900s, Edward Jr. joined the family business, and M.W. Sewall became a consignee agent for Texaco. A significant milestone came when Texaco dismantled a fuel storage facility in the greater Boston area, shipped it to Bath, Maine, and leased it to the Sewall Company for just $0.01 per gallon. This partnership marked the beginning of the company's growth in fuel distribution.

Growth & Innovation

In 1992, Edward "Ned" Sewall III took the helm as President and ushered in a period of accelerated growth. Under his leadership, the company constructed its current office at 259 Front Street and developed a state-of-the-art fuel and propane bulk storage facility in West Bath. This facility significantly increased storage capacity, ensuring a reliable supply for the company's expanding customer base throughout the Midcoast region.
